Cech has confirmed he is set to stay at Chelsea and he will fight for his place with Courtois.
Petr Cech has confirmed that he will be staying at Chelsea for the upcoming season, amidst rumours that he was set to depart Stamford Bridge.
Cech’s future has come into question in recent times due to the return of Thibaut Courtois, who has spent the past three seasons impressing on loan at Atletico Madrid.
But the tall stopper was insistent that he would be part of Jose Mourinho’s squad next season, after his side’s 2-1 friendly win over Olimpija Ljubljana earlier today.
"I'm staying at Chelsea, that’s for sure," Cech said to Ekipa24.
"I really don't mind that there are two great keepers at Chelsea. That motivates me ever more.
"You always have to fight if you want to be on great level. And there is not only Courtouis and me, even Matej Delac is showing that he is great keeper."
Cech has been a mainstay in the Chelsea time for a number of seasons, but his position as number one is under considerable threat now.
Courtois has established himself as one of the world’s finest custodians during his time in La Liga, and looks set to be the Blues’ first choice between the sticks for the foreseeable future, given he is still only 22-years-old.
The Belgium international made 111 appearances in his three years at Atletico and the level of his performances meant that Mourinho had little choice but to include him in his first team plans this year, despite possessing a keeper of Cech’s quality already.
The youngster didn’t feature in Chelsea’s most recent friendly, where Cech played the second half, but he is generally expected to start the season in goal for the Premier League title hopefuls.
If he does it will inevitably raise questions once more over the Cech’s future at the club, with PSG and Monaco both interested, but for now he appears set to stay and fight for his place.
