Real Sociedad forward Antoine Griezmann has become one of the hottest transfer prospects this summer with Premier League duo Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur both showing an interest.
His direct running style and eye for goal made him a top marksman in La Liga last season and both Spurs and the Blues could profit with adding more goals to their team ahead of the forthcoming campaign.
Fresh reports in Spain’s renowned newspaper AS, however, have stated that La Liga champions Atletico Madrid are in prime position to sign the 23-year-old and a €30 million agreement has been struck between the clubs.
Los Colchoneros are keen to rebuild their first-team squad after Chelsea prised away duo Diego Costa and Filipe Luis though boss Diego Simeone remained coy when questioned over Antoine Griezmann’s reported imminent arrival.
“He’s a very strong player. He has great speed and can give us offensive versatility. But the truth is that many more players were rumoured to join and we could do two teams with them.” He said, quoted by Sky Sports Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.
French international Griezmann was often played as a supporting wide forward last season and contributed to 16 goals and three assists in 31 La Liga starts.
His startling form won him a place in Didier Deschamps’ 23-man French squad for the World Cup in Brazil where became heavily involved during France’s impressive run to the quarter-final stage.
Will Chelsea and Spurs regret not pushing harder to sign Antoine Griezmann?
