Latest Chelsea wonderkid scores first goal for loan club

Mario Pasalic scored his first goal for Elche yesterday.

In January Chelsea agreed a deal to sign Croatian wonderkid Mario Pasalic from Hajduk Split in the summer - a deal worth around £3 million which went through without a hitch.

But immediately after signing the player many a potential loan move popped up in the horizon. The club could not offer him regular first-team football just yet, so decided to allow him a temporary exit to gain valuable first-team football.

Lazio were keen, as were Vitesse Arnhem and several German clubs. But in the end it was decided between all parties that his best destination was Spain - and he joined Elche on a season long loan earlier this month.

The talented midfielder, who has been compared to Frank Lampard, will now embark on a campaign in La Liga - as Los Franjiverdes look to survive the drop once again.

And last night he gave them a little taste of what to expect.

Pasalic scored his first goal for the club in a friendly against Alcoyano, a game Elche eventually won on penalties. He turned in a cross from Cape Verdean international Garry Rodrigues to get a goal on the hour mark - his first for the club.

But judging by his huge potential and the speed in which he has settled into his new environment it is unlikely to be his last.
