Arsene Wenger has revealed Yaya Sanogo was injured.
Arsenal manage Arsene Wenger has moved to clear up confusion over why Yaya Sanogo was not selected for the pre-season trip to New York.
The French under-21 international was a surprise omission, leaving the Gunners with only 18-year-old Chuba Akpom as a striker, owing to World Cup enforced absences.
After the 1-0 defeat to New York Red Bulls, Wenger told Arsenal.com:
"Sanogo didn't come because he had a little thigh problem and we didn't want to take a gamble."
Sanogo had played 45 minutes a week earlier against Boreham Wood Town.
The striker is yet to score for the Gunners, and his absence was led with speculation he could be about to be sent out on loan.
It does not appear this is currently in Wenger's thinking however, but Sanogo will have to have a little bit more luck with injury than he endured in his debut season, to be a success, missing the first half of it with a back problem.
