Real Madrid star Angel Di Maria has been heavily linked with a move away from the Spanish capital this summer, and Manchester United are thought to have been keeping an eye on developments - the Argentine’s wizardry wing play and direct style would undoubtedly suit new Manchester United boss Louis Van Gaal’s renowned counterattacking philosophy.
And with stars such as Shinji Kagawa, Wayne Rooney, Juan Mata, Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini all predominantly central players, a player like Di Maria would give Manchester United options out wide.
According to Spanish newspaper Marca, however, Van Gaal may have to look elsewhere, as French champions Paris Saint-Germain are now thought to be close to making a reported €65m deal for the winger.
'Angel Di Maria’s days at Real Madrid are numbered. The move to PSG could be made official as early as next week as soon as the club are assured of the sales of Lavezzi and Pastore', the report claims.
A €65m sale would be a record price for Real Madrid, breaking the €50m the club netted from German international Mesut Ozil’s move to Arsenal last summer.
It's said that Di Maria will sign a five-year deal in the French capital, and that he will be paid around €8m a year - almost doubling his current Santiago Bernabeu wages.
The former Benfica star topped La Liga’s assist charts last season with an unprecedented 17 assists in 27 league starts for Los Blancos.
Expected to make a huge impact for Argentina at the World Cup in Brazil, he was robbed of the chance to compete in the final against Germany due to injury.
