Reported Liverpool target Nicolas Gaitan will be the subject of a bid that could reach €35million from French side Monaco according to reports.
Portuguese newspaper A Bola claims the Benfica winger has attracted enough interest from the Ligue 1 side for them to come in for a sizeable offer for the player, even if that would still be some €10million short of his reported release-clause.
The latest report claims Monaco officials will travel to Lisbon next week to make their offer, which could be bad news for Liverpool.
Recent reports from French radio station RMC have claimed Brendan Rodgers’ side was one of three to be interested in Gaitan, along with Monaco and Atletico Madrid.
Following an injury to Adam Lallana, Liverpool’s need for another left-sided player has increased somewhat. And stories linking them with a bid for Bayern Munich’s Xherdan Shaqiri suggest the Reds are in the market for such a player.
In truth, Shaqiri would be a far better option than Gaitan. But if Liverpool are seriously considering a move for the Argentine, they may soon be blown out of the water by Monaco who are even more flush with cash than usual following the sale of James Rodriguez to Real Madrid.
That said, Liverpool have plenty of their own following the sale of Luis Suarez.
