Arsenal transfer news: £16m for Chambers, £27m for Schneiderlin being mooted

All the latest transfer news and gossip from The Emirates Stadium this morning.

The fee for Southampton defender Callum Chambers is being reported at the £16 million mark this morning. The youngster missed Southampton's friendly against Bournemouth yesterday as he was in North London completing a medical with club officials.

The talented teen was first reported to have been the subject of a £7 million bid, but Sky Sports News report this morning that the fee is more than double that - £16 million according to their sources.

His arrival would surely spell the end of Carl Jenkinson's time at the club. Mathieu Debuchy has already arrived from Newcastle United and Chambers arrival would effectively make him surplus to requirements.

Arsenal are not done in their raid of Southampton however. It is now being reported that the two clubs are edging closer on a deal to bring French international midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin to The Emirates.

The BBC are reporting that the midfield dynamo is keen on a switch - as he seeks Champions League football next season.

However one stumbling block could be the fee. Southampton are keen not to lose the player, and may ask for a figure in the region of £27 million for his services.

One player who will not be on his way to Arsenal is Gino Peruzzi. The Argentine, who plays for Italian side Catania, has ruled out a move:

"I heard about the interest of Arsenal, but the club has not told me anything. I am calm and I think I will stay here. I am just thinking of Catania and I really want to bring the team back into Serie A."

Arsenal are keen on signing Barcelona young stopper Andrei Onana. Arsenal are after a third-choice stopper after tieing down a reported deal to sign David Ospina of Nice.

Youngsters Damian Martinez and Matt Macey could be considered for the role - but the talented Cameroonian national might also come onto their radar.
