Arsenal complete Chambers medical as part of potential triple transfer swoop

Arsenal are close to signing Calum Chambers from Southampton, and the defender is not the only one potentially heading into the club.

Arsenal are closing in on the signing of Calum Chambers, report multiple sources.

The Mirror is one paper to claim a fee of £7 million has been agreed, while The Star claim the right-back will cost closer to £12 million.

The Southern Daily Echo, claim that the Saints are 'braced' for a £16 million offer.

Whichever the final agreement, it appears Chambers is heading for the Emirates, having missed Southampton's friendly with Bournemouth on Friday evening.

BBC Sport reporter David Ornstein claims this is because the player has been in North London and passed a medical with the Gunners.

His colleague Ben Smith goes onto detail that Chambers is not the only player Arsenal are looking to sign from Southampton, aiming to bring in French international midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin.

While a very worrying chain of events for Southampton, who have already lost a number of first team players this summer, for Arsenal the news is positive.

It comes after Arsene Wenger confirmed on Friday evening that the club are poised to complete the signing of goalkeeper David Ospina from Nice.

He claims, report ESPN, the Colombian will be given the chance to compete for the number one spot: "You know at the start [Wojciech] Szczensy will be the number one, then again we'll be down to performances and, if Ospina shows that he is better, he will play."

Going back to Calum Chambers, the 19-year-old would become the second right-back Arsenal have signed this summer, after Mathieu Debuchy, 28.

It poses questions over the futures of Carl Jenkinson and Hector Bellerin, with one expected to go out on loan this coming season - but Chambers is also versatile enough to play at centre-back, which may form part of Arsene Wenger's decision making.
