Tottenham Hotspur recently completed the £3.5million signing of Michel Vorm from Swansea City.
The Netherlands international will compete with current Spurs’ number one Hugo Lloris for a starting spot at White Hart Lane.
Some have questioned the 30-year-old’s decision to move to Tottenham considering the fact that Lloris only recently agreed a new long-term contract of his own. But in a recent interview Vorm said that all top clubs needed two top ‘keepers, which succinctly summed up the move.
In the latest in our series on the numbers behind a player’s career to date, we take a closer look at Tottenham’s new signing.
254 – The number of appearances Vorm has made in his club career. The goalkeeper featured 157 times for Dutch club Utrecht before making 97 appearances for Swansea.
313 – The number of goals the Dutch player has conceded on club duty. He let in 186 during his time in Holland and 127 in his stint in Wales.
94 – The number of clean-sheets Vorm has kept in his club career so far. He kept 63 clean-sheets for Utrecht and had 31 shut-outs with the Swans.
1 – The number of times he has been sent off in his club career. His one and only dismissal came while playing for Swansea during a match against Cardiff City.
27 – The number of games Vorm has missed due to injury or illness thus far in his career. He missed 15 games with a knee problem back in 2008, which is his longest injury absence to date.
15 – The number of caps he has for his country. Tottenham’s new signing has featured 15 times for the Netherlands since making his senior debut in 2008.
Verdict – Vorm has proved during his time at Swansea to be an excellent goalkeeper, and there is no question that for the money Tottenham reportedly paid, they have bagged a bargain.
The question remains as to exactly how often Vorm will see game-time at White Hart Lane. However given the number of competitions Spurs will be involved in next season, he is likely to be used fairly regularly and certainly adds quality to Mauricio Pochettino’s squad.
