What Vidal's quotes really mean for Manchester United, deal not dead?

Arturo Vidal has appeared to play down a switch to Manchester United, but he has not been as definitive as suggested.

Arturo Vidal has appeared to offer bad news for Manchester United regarding their transfer pursuit of him. Yet it is not quite 'over'.

Firstly here is a look at what the Chilean international had to say, in an interview with Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

"Now I'm still on vacation. If I can say that I stay at Juve? I do not know, on Monday I will talk with Allegri then we'll see.

"I'm happy here. I'm calm now, I think the fans of Juventus can be. I have not yet spoken with Allegri and even with my friends, I do not go to Manchester."

The last lines 'I do not go to Manchester', make the situation look bleak for fans of the Red Devils, but Vidal is merely discussing the present situation, rather than dismissing the option for the future.

Rumours had sprung up over the past month that Vidal was ready to move, with Marca even claiming he was 'packing his bag for Manchester'. Another Italian based agent, yesterday claimed that Vidal would move to United in early August.

So the midfielder was subsequently quizzed, as to whether he was in fact, 'off to Manchester', to which he offered a negative and factual response. No deal has been agreed, so how could he say otherwise?

A more open look at the situation however comes in his earlier quotes, when he says, 'I do not know', when questioned if he will stay at Juventus.

Nor has he even spoken to the new manager, and his words suggest, he will do as he is told. If Juventus tell him they are accepting a blockbuster £50 million offer from United, the situation will quickly change.

More poignant is what he is not saying; he is not declaring his love for the club and saying he wants to fight for them, or discussing what he aims to achieve with them this season.

The ball is now clearly in United's court; and after all CEO Ed Woodward's bravado regarding being able to pay huge transfer fees, now is the time to put his money where his big mouth is, and splash the cash.

If United can make Juventus an offer they cannot refuse, as Real Madrid did to get James Rodriguez, and do it before he meets and starts bonding with Allegri, the deal could very much be alive.
