The Daily Mail claims Marko Marin has talked to Demba Ba about joining Besiktas.
Marko Marin could be the next player to leave Chelsea and he could link up with an old teammate.
Marin is in a similar situation to Ba, staring at a bleak chance of regular football with Chelsea next season and the Daily Mail has suggested that they have talked about heading off for a fresh challenge in Turkey together, with Besiktas linked to both.
“Marin, 25, was on loan at Sevilla last season and has spoken to Demba Ba about joining him at Besiktas, but Hannover look favourites,” reports the Mail.
Turkey would certainly represent a new challenge for Marin but it’s debatable whether the style of football would suit his game in the same way Sevilla did last season and the same way a move to the Bundesliga could do.
Marin started professional life with Borussia Monchengladbach and Werder Bremen in Germany and he could be extremely tempted by the chance to go back to his homeland.
The Bundesliga also arguably represents a better chance for the 25-year-old to start playing international football for his country because it provides a home platform for him to perform on.
What Besiktas have working to their advantage is Demba Ba and the idea that the Blues striker can effectively sell the club to Marin.
Ba has not been at Besiktas for long but first impressions are important and if Ba’s are good he can communicate that to Marin in any further talks the pair have over an adventure in Turkish football.
It’s unfortunate for Chelsea because Jose Mourinho would have more than likely wanted the chance to develop Marin into a more complete and all round player.
However, the Blues have one of the best squads of central midfielders in the Premier League for next season with Marin behind Oscar, Ramires, Cesc Fabregas and Nemanja Matic among others in the pecking order.
