Here's Liverpool's potential side for next season based on current players and possible signings.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers should be relatively confident that his side can repeat the positive performances of last season.
The Reds have spent well in the transfer market so far, with the club wary of blowing the cash generated from selling Luis Suarez for the sake of trying to replace the Uruguayan as quickly as possible.
We’ve attempted to name Liverpool’s team for next season.
GK – Simon Mignolet
The Belgian should continue as the club’s number one and he should be determined to eradicate a few errors, which crept into his game last season.
RB – Javi Manquillo
Manquillo is being tipped to join on loan from Atletico Madrid with a view to a permanent deal.
CB – Martin Skrtel
Skrtel was Liverpool’s most consistent player in the back four last season. He provides that no nonsense element to defending.
CB – Mamadou Sakho
It will be interesting to see if Sakho gets the nod to start in the back four. He’ll definitely be aiming to improve on his consistency.
LB – Jon Flanagan
With the Reds no closer to securing a left-back, the right sided Flanagan could be asked to continue at left-back, where he excelled last season.
RM – Raheem Sterling
The winger should start on the right hand side, with Rodgers keen for the side to utilise his pace on the counter attack.
DM – Emre Can
Can is a player who can sit and protect the back four, allowing the more creative midfield players to get forward.
CM – Steven Gerrard
Gerrard is the heartbeat of the team and it shouldn’t be a surprise that there’s talk of a new contract for the skipper.
AM – Philippe Coutinho
Rodgers recently described the Brazilian as the playmaker in the current team and the man to pull the creative strings.
LM – Lazar Markovic
Markovic will be tasked with playing down the left hand side of the midfield. He’s under a bit of pressure due to his price tag but Rodgers likes what he sees.
ST – Daniel Sturridge
Despite the presence of Rickie Lambert and the imminent arrival of Loic Remy, Sturridge will be the main man up front.
