Adnan Januzaj (low qual)

On the 25th July 2013 what were the stories that dominated the football landscape? Including Chelsea and Manchester United.

Let's cast our eyes back to this exact day, the 25th July 2014, but a year earlier.

What were the main tales from that day? What big events were happening in Premier League football?

Here are some of the big scoops from the 25th July 2013…

Adnan the man

It came amid plenty of conjecture regarding his future but it was being heavily reported that Manchester United youngster Adnan Januzaj was desperate for a new contract at the club.

The Belgian, who went on to shine for the club in the 2013-14 season, said of a potential new deal:

"I've tried to impress the manager and make sure I give myself the chance to stay with the first-team. I don't decide what happens with my contract. I've got people behind me who do this for me. Manchester United are a big club, though. I love it here and I feel good so I hope to stay. My dad does everything for me off the pitch. He has just told me to work hard on the pitch, which is what I try to do."

Despite interest from Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain Januzaj did eventually sign a new deal at the club in October 2013.

Eight balled

Chelsea were celebrating a pre-season thrashing. The Blues took on an Indonesia All-Stars team in Jakarta and thrashed their opponents 8-1.

Eden Hazard, Ramires, Demba Ba and John Terry all found themselves on the scoresheet. But it was a brace from Romelu Lukaku and a great goal from Bertrand Traore that really caught the eye.

Chelsea finally snapped up Traore later in the season and Lukaku was sent for a very successful loan spell at Everton.

Tomas Kalas scored an own goal for their opponents consolation.
