Hamilton quickest, Raikkonen shows improvement in Hungary practice

Lewis Hamilton 2014

Lewis Hamilton led a Mercedes one-two in first practice for the Hungarian Grand Prix while Kimi Raikkonen was a strong third for Ferrari.

Hamilton beat team-mate Nico Rosberg to top spot by 0.183s at the Hungaroring circuit. The 29-year-old is bidding for a record-breaking fifth win at the track this weekend.

Behind the dominant Mercedes duo, Raikkonen hinted that he may be able to halt his disastrous 2014 form by ending the session a strong third, albeit more than half a second shy of the leading pair. The Finn beat team-mate Fernando Alonso by over four tenths, and looked more assured aboard his Ferrari than at recent grands prix.

Sebastian Vettel was fifth for Red Bull and Kevin Mangussen sixth in his McLaren, while Jean-Eric Vergne also showed well, placing seventh for Toro Rosso.
