Everyone can play Destiny for free and become a guardian now

Bungie and Activision’s sci-fi epic is now in open beta for all to experience this weekend.

If you’ve been waiting and hoping to get your hands on a beta key for the hugely-anticipated Destiny, then wait and hope no further. In a blog post over on Bungie.net, David ‘Deej’ Dogue, Destiny’s Community Manager, has announced that anyone can now access the game and become a guardian.

“Our work is not done. There is more we can learn. To make this happen, we need more Guardians to play. This is, above all else, a test,” said Deej.

So, if you own a PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 or Xbox One, and have either a PlayStation Plus or Xbox Live Gold subscription, all you need to do is fire that baby up and join in on the fun.

This move appears to be in order to stress-test the servers to their limit, and if you’re playing the game on Saturday at around 10pm BST you’ll unlock an exclusive emblem for use in the full version in September.

We’ve been playing the Destiny beta this week and we’ll bring you our impressions after the beta ends on Sunday, but all I’ll say for now is that it’s well worth you taking the time to play it this weekend.

Destiny is due for release on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One on 9th September 2014.
