Vorm sends message to Swansea City and Spurs fans

The Dutch goalkeeper completed his move from West Wales to Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday.

New Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Michel Vorm has thanked Swansea City fans following the completion of his transfer on Wednesday.

Vorm departed the Welsh club along with left-back Ben Davies in a deal that also saw Gylfi Sigurðsson go the other way.

The Netherlands shot-stopper took to his personal Twitter account firstly to thank Swansea fans for their support, and then to express his delight at arriving at White Hart Lane.

“Thanks to players, staff, fans and friends in Swansea. Amazing to be part of our Premier League journey,” Vorm stated.

“Will miss everybody and wish you all the best!

“Proud and honoured to join the THFC family and work with staff and players at this amazing training ground. Go Spurs!”

Vorm’s future at Swansea was cast into doubt in June when the club signed Polish goalkeeper Łukasz Fabiański from Arsenal. Having also been linked with several big-name clubs including Arsenal and Liverpool over the summer, a move failed to transpire.

But then Spurs came calling, and were keen to tie up his services along with his Swansea team-mate Ben Davies.

Vorm’s decision to join Tottenham has been questioned in certain sections of the media, with the 30-year-old unlikely to earn much playing time with French captain Hugo Lloris having a firm grasp on the number one jersey.

He does though provide excellent cover for Lloris, who may be rested for Europa League and cup fixtures throughout the season. The prospect of Spurs qualifying for the Champions League next season also highlights the importance of quality back-up in the goalkeeping department.
