Chelsea outcast tipped as Morata replacement at Real Madrid

Romelu Lukaku

Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku has struggled to make an impact at Stamford Bridge, forcing him to seek loan moves.

Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku is being touted as a potential replacement for Alvaro Morata at Real Madrid, according to reports in Spain and Belgium.

Lukaku has been out on loan for the last two seasons in the Premier League with West Bromwich Albion and Everton, having struggled to find his feet with Chelsea.

Now reports have linked him with a move to the Bernabeu to replace Alvaro Morata, who joined Seri A champions Juventus last week.

A move to Madrid would see Lukaku link up with a host of star names such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, Toni Kroos, James Rodriguez and Karim Benzema, with the latter providing his direct competition for a place in the side.

His power and surprisingly strong pace considering his build, along with his prolific goal record in the last few years has seen him become one of the most talked about players of this summer’s transfer window.

While Chelsea are reported to want to keep the Belgian, interest from the likes of Tottenham and Arsenal is also thought to be ongoing, with Everton also pursuing a permanent deal following his loan spell last campaign. Chelsea would reportedly let the 21-year-old leave should the Toffee’s, or anyone else for that matter, meet the £18 million valuation for the striker.

Game time would be hard to come by at Real Madrid if he made the move to the Spanish giants, with Karim Benzema occupying the front-man role. But as previously mentioned, Lukaku is only 21, and could learn a lot from his French rival.

He would be a strong long-term option for Madrid were he to make the move, but following their near £80 million activity to sign Kroos and Rodriguez already this summer, a further £18 million may be too much to ask.
