Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata has praised countryman Ander Herrera after he made his debut for the Reds in a 7-0 win over LA Galaxy on Wednesday night.
United thrashed the American outfit through goals from Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck, Reece James and Ashley Young to get their pre-season tour off to a flier.
Herrera was making his first appearance in a United shirt since his big-money move from Atletic Bilbao, with Juan Mata saying he will bring a lot to the side this season.
"He did great," Mata told United's official website.
"I know him very well from our days with the Spanish national youth teams and he was very good tonight. I am very happy for him.
“We have a good connection on and off the pitch and I think he will give us a lot of good things this season."
United struggled in the centre of midfield for large parts of last season, as Marouane Fellani and Michael Carrick failed to deliver the form required to halt the slide. 40-year-old Ryan Giggs and United veteran Darren Fletcher were also called upon to try and solve the midfield issues, while Anderson was loaned out to Italian side Fiorentina.
But Herrera’s arrival should add some much needed spark into United’s core, with his link up with Juan Mata essential to the team going forward.
New boss Luis Van Gaal is yet to add to Herrera and Luke Shaw as his transfer signings so far this summer, but big things can be expected following Ed Woodward’s comments that United can break the world transfer record to land their desired players.
