The North Londoners appeared to have filled their requirement for a right-back to replace Bacary Sagna in the signing of Mathieu Debuchy from Newcastle. However, the full-back will be 29 years of age by the time new season starts and youngster Carl Jenkinson is still a way from being a regular starter.
Arsenal had reportedly been interested in Javier Manquillo of Atletico Madrid but the Spaniard is now reportedly expected to sign for Liverpool on loan. Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger may consider his right-back dilemma solved but it’ll likely not be long before a replacement for Debuchy becomes a necessity in a few years time.
PSG have signed Toulouse fullback Serge Aurier on loan with a view to making the move permanent for a deal projected to be worth around £8 million. The 21-year-old had told fans in recent months that he could be signing for Arsenal prior to his strong display in the World Cup in Brazil representing the Ivory Coast.
The Ligue 1 champions already have Dutch right-back Gregory van der Wiel on their books, 26 now, and may not be ready to step aside for Aurier.
Young Aurier may not be granted as many opportunities in the French capital as he would like and likely need to continue his development as a young player and, as such, Arsenal may have a chance to sign him down the line, if their situation requires.
