Midlands Latest: Delph wants Villa contract, Stoke to up Redmond bid

We bring you the latest news from Aston Villa, Stoke City, Leicester City, Derby County and Peterborough.

1) Delph wants Villa stay

Aston Villa midfielder Fabian Delph has revealed his ambition to extend his stay at Villa Park.

West Ham United have been linked with a move for the 24-year-old who is entering the final year of his current contract, but Delph appears to be hell-bent on staying at the club, and wants to work under Paul Lambert again next season.

Delph said; “I’d love to sign a new deal and am ready to talk, but it’s not up to me, so we’ll have to see.”

2) Stoke to return with improved offer for Redmond

According to reports, Stoke are preparing to return with an improved bid for Norwich midfielder Nathan Redmond

The Potters saw a bid for the youngster turned down earlier this month, but Mark Hughes is determined to get his man.

Stoke completed the signing for Bojan yesterday from Barcelona, and are making a clear statement of intent ahead of the new season.

3) Pearson plans more signings at Leicester

Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson revealed that he intends to add further additions to his Foxes squad ahead of the new season.

The Premier League new boys have already welcomed five new faces to the club, including the £7 million signing of Leonardo Ulloa yesterday.

Pearson said; "It is always about whether you can improve the group you have and, if the right players come along, then I am not discounting doing more business."

The Foxes are reported to be in the hunt to sign Watford's Troy Deeney

4) Derby star ruled out for nine months

Steve McClaren's £2 million summer signing George Thorne has been ruled out for up to nine months after sustaining cruciate knee ligament damage.

The 21-year-old joined the club last week and was making his first appearance for the club in a friendly against Zenit St Petersburg, before being forced to leave the pitch early with the injury.

Thorne will have surgery today but could be sidelined until March next year.

5) Peterborough sign Spurs midfielder

Posh have signed Tottenham Hotspur youngster Kenny McEvoy on a season-long loan deal.

The 19-year-old was a staple part of the Spurs under-21 set-up last season, and has also represented the Republic of Ireland at youth level.

McEvoy sees the move as the perfect chance to grow as a player, telling the club's website; "This is an opportunity for me to come and try and break into the first team and get some experience under my belt.

“It is my first loan spell so I just have to try and impress in training.”
