Liverpool got their American tour under way yesterday at Fenway Park - taking on Italian outfit AS Roma in a marquee friendly.
It was a poor and often scrappy affair, which the Giallorossi won in the final moments of the game - ex-West Ham loanee Marco Boriello scoring the crucial goal.
It was always going to be a tough game for both sides as the pre-season schedule continues to pick up pace, and with many players still unavailable after World Cup duty this summer.
Liverpool were able to show off some new signings. Emre Can and Rickie Lambert both making appearances.
But other newbies Lazar Markovic and Adam Lallana were not present.
Lallana, who signed from Southampton in a £24 million move earlier this month, is still recovering from international duty with England - and Rodgers was reluctant to play him.
Markovic on the other hand had a summer off - leaving many wondering why the £20 million player did not feature against the Italians.
Liverpool's next game is against Greek side Olympiakos in Chicago on Sunday and Liverpool fans will be hoping to see both in action - and Brendan Rodgers has now confirmed that Markovic, at least, will definitely feature against the Piraeus side.
“They (Markovic and Lallana) only really began training on Monday. I put Jordan Henderson in because of his level of fitness. Jordan could play 10 games on the spin because he’s so fit and strong. It was nice to give him a 15-minute period at the end. But those players, like young Markovic, who is an exceptional talent, will be involved when we arrive in Chicago.”
So it would certainly appear that the £44 million duo will finally make their Liverpool debuts this weekend. Reds fans will hope they shine, as the post-Suarez era gets into full flow.
