Chilean international Gary Medel is to all intents and purposes an Inter player, if reports from Italy are correct.
Inter director Piero Ausilio flew to London to try and hammer out a deal for Medel with Cardiff officials and it seems that his work paid off.
It is being reported by Tuttosport that Inter have agreed to pay just under £6 million plus performance related bonuses.
The only remaining element yet to be worked out is the time scale for those payments, which should be finalised today.
Inter are looking to spread the instalments out while Cardiff would rather receive them as quickly as possible, but a compromise shouldn't be too hard to reach.
Cardiff may be a little disappointed with the transfer fee having paid a club record £11 million just last summer when they signed Medel from Sevilla.
The 26-year-old, who can play as a defender or a defensive midfielder, made 34 appearances for Cardiff last season but was unable to prevent the Welsh side sliding into The Championship.
Cardiff's relegation meant that they had little chance of keeping Medel, especially after the World Cup, and put Inter into a strong position during negotiations.
