Manchester United transfer news: Van Gaal told he can break transfer record; Di Maria latest

A select round-up of the latest news relating to Manchester United

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has been told he can break the world transfer record according to the Guardian.

The club’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has reiterated that the money is available – and a lot of it – to sign the players the new manager deems right for the club.

“Whether it’s a record or not doesn’t really resonate with us,” Woodward said. “What resonates is an elite player that the manager wants who is going to be a star for Manchester United.”

Considering the players United have been linked with so far this summer, only Arturo Vidal would come close to breaking the huge fee Real Madrid paid for Gareth Bale last summer.

But the message is loud and clear: United have the money and are willing to spend it to get back to where they want to be, both domestically and in Europe.

In other news, the Independent reports that United have been made aware of Angel Di Maria’s availability following James Rodriguez’s move from Monaco to Real Madrid.

The Argentine winger has been linked with a potential move to Old Trafford for some time. Although more recently Paris Saint-Germain were believed to be favourites for his signature, with a one-year loan move touted earlier this week.
