Manchester City latest: Vieira action prompts praise; Pellegrini says City the team to beat

All the latest news, views and transfer rumours from the Etihad…

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini believes his side should still be considered title favourites ahead of the new Premier League campaign.

In quotes published by the Manchester Evening News, the Chilean said, “This is my second season in England, but everyone knows that the team to beat is Manchester City.

“We are going to face very strong teams. Each of them will want to win the Premier League.”

City are currently on their pre-season tour of the USA, where they will face MLS side Sporting Kansas later today.

In other news, EDS coach Patrick Vieira has been praised after he took a stand against an alleged racist incident.

As reported in the London Evening Standard, the former France international took his players off the pitch during a pre-season game against HNK Rijeka after one of them – Seko Fofana – was allegedly the subject of racist abuse from an opponent.

Vieira’s action has received praise from Piara Powar, the executive director of FARE – who said, “The message it sends out is categorical. It is just the sort of thing which will create change.”
