Brendan Rodgers spoke about all of his new signings, but had some interesting words to say about Lazar Markovic
Markovic became Liverpool's fourth signing of the summer last week for a fee believed to be around £20 million, and there have been rave reviews about the 20-year-old Serbian - including from former Chelsea manager Avram Grant.
At a press conference in Boston, the Liverpool boss said: "Young Markovic is a really exciting talent. He's the kind of player I like, who can beat people in one versus one [situations]. He's good in the duel, but he also works hard - so he doesn't just run forward quickly, he runs back even quicker, which is important.
"That's the key for us. We've got hungry players - players who want to do their best for Liverpool, are technically and tactically gifted but have the personality to work. I'm excited by them all."
A lot has been said about the capabilities of Markovic as he adds more options for the Reds out wide and in the final third.
His pace has been talked about a lot, and given the way Liverpool counter-attacked sides last season it is likely that he will fit into that part of Liverpool's game quite comfortably.
But if his defensive work impresses Rodgers than that is a bonus. A lot has been said about Liverpool's leaky defence but if they have attacking players with the ability to commit themselves to defensive work then it should be a big help to the team.
Overall, Markovic will be judged on his contribution going forward, the pace he brings to the side, and the kind of end product he offers in the final third as the Reds look to demonstrate similar attacking prowess to last season, where they found the net on 101 occasions in the Premier League.
