Radamel Falcao had been linked with a switch to Real Madrid himself, but looks to be staying with Monaco.
Radamel Falcao has expressed his best wishes to Colombia team-mate James Rodriguez following his £63million move to Real Madrid.
Falcao sent Rodriguez a message via Twitter on Tuesday evening as the 23-year-old completed his move to the Bernabéu from Monaco.
“Congratulations @jamesdrodriguez for this new phase of your life, I wish you the best of success and hope you achieve all your goals.” Falcao tweeted from his personal Twitter account.
Felicitaciones @jamesdrodriguez por esta nueva etapa de tu vida, te deseó el mayor de los éxitos y que puedas conseguir todos tus objetivos.— Radamel Falcao (@FALCAO) July 22, 2014
The 28-year-old looks likely to remain with Monaco for the coming season having been linked with a move to Madrid himself. The former Atletico man has chosen to stay in France due to the big project underway at his club.
“I believe in Monaco’s project. I want to stay here and play Champions League football with Monaco,” the Colombian was reported as saying in the Daily Mail.
The decision to stay in Ligue 1 could inadvertently scupper a few Premier League clubs’ transfer plans.
Both Arsenal and Liverpool had reportedly been keen on signing Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema, but would have required Falcao or another big name arriving at the European Champions. With Falcao remaining with Monaco, Benzema is unlikely to be sold due to a lack of out-and-out striker options at Real.
As for Rodriguez’s arrival, it has put the futures of players such as Isco into doubt, with Madrid boasting a number of stellar names in his attacking midfield role.
Rodriguez, Toni Kroos, Angel Di Maria and Luka Modric will all want a starting place in Carlo Ancelotti’s side, meaning Isco could be on the way out of the club.
