New manager Ronald Koeman is determined to land the 26-year-old, who has spent six seasons with the Glasgow outfit. In an attempt to reinforce his side ahead of the upcoming season, the Dutchman has already made his interest official.
Sources close to the Scottish champions say they do not want to sell their shot stopper and have described Southampton’s previous offer as "derisory". They added that the bid was well below the widely reported £7.5m figure, with the Daily Mail reporting a total around £4million.
Artur Boruc was the first choice goalkeeper at St Mary’s last season, featuring on 19 occasions, but Koeman’s arrival has seemingly thrown his first team future in doubt. Celtic’s Forster broke the Scottish league record for minutes without conceding a goal last season, and it is clear to see why is he is such high demand.
His current club have recently recruited Sunderland keeper Craig Gordon, and with Lukasz Zaluska also on the books, it is suggested they could be prepared to allow Forster to leave for the right price.
As Koeman looks to mould his new-look Southampton side, he seems willing to match Celtic’s asking price of £9million for the Englishman’s services and, according to reports, a second bid could be on the horizon.
Saints fans, would you welcome Fraser Forster at St Mary's?
