In the latest Manchester United transfer news, Louis van Gaal may have to look elsewhere after hitting a roadblock in push for Ricardo Rodriguez.

Manchester United appeared to absolve their requirement for a left back after acquiring Luke Shaw from Southampton, however, the exit of Patrice Evra to Juventus appears to have prompted the Old Trafford outfit to return to the transfer market in order to find cover and competition for the 19-year-old former Saints star.

A number of options emerged as viable targets, with Wolfsburg full back Ricardo Rodriguez - who starred for Switzerland during the recent World Cup competition - a likely candidate.

Wolfsburg sporting director Klaus Allofs confirmed that dialogue with Louis van Gaal's United had occurred, but refuted the speculation that Rodriguez would be permitted to leave.

He told Kicker: "That [United's meeting with Rodriguez's representatives] will have been a brief conversation… Ricardo is not going anywhere."

There are alternatives to Rodriguez, though. And, according to the Daily Express, a £17 million offer for Ajax and Netherlands international Daley Blind will be made.

United are also heavily linked with a bid for centre back Mats Hummels.
