Transfer bin: Chelsea legend Didier Drogba to Manchester City

Didier Drogba

There is no chance that Stamford Bridge great would taint his image in West London but the latest transfer news implies he is wanted at the Etihad Stadium.

There is an argument that Didier Drogba is the greatest Chelsea striker of all time.

The Ivory Coast international represented the Blues for an eight year spell, returned 157 goals from 341 games and played a fundamental part in the club's three Premier League title wins, four FA Cup haul, two League Cup successes and Champions League triumph.

While Jose Mourinho has brought in one of the most physical and predatory penalty box strikers in world football - Diego Costa, a player whom could really replicate the assets that most enamoured Blues fans to Drogba in the first place - there has been speculation that the 36-year-old is set for a sensational return to SW6.

The BBC have even reported on it, stating that Drogba is "considering a one year deal to return to Chelsea."

The report continued: "Drogba's representatives say a decision has not yet been made and that Chelsea is one of a number of options. But talks are under way and the 36-year-old is likely to decide on a possible return this week."

Both Drogba's history with the club and the current link to his return are what make the rumour that he is a live target for Manchester City so implausible, improbable and impossible.

The Daily Star broke an "exclusive" overnight implying that Drogba is of interest to Manuel Pellegrini due to the two to three month absence of Alvaro Negredo, who recently suffered a broken foot.

Definitely one for the transfer bin
