Liverpool latest: Origi deal hopeful, no deal in place for Lovren

A round up of news stories and transfer rumours about Liverpool from the past 24 hours.

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman denies Liverpool have agreed a deal with the Saints for centre-back Dejan Lovren. Reports last week suggested a deal had been agreed for the Croatian defender.

“We have had no bid from Liverpool for Lovren, that is the situation. If that does not change, he will continue to play at Southampton,” Koeman told the press.

Javier Manquillo is edging towards a move to Liverpool over fears he won’t get regular game time at Arsenal. The Atletico Madrid full-back was linked with the Gunners but reports today suggest that the Reds are in the driving seat to get him on a loan deal.

Liverpool are reportedly working on a deal to add Belgian star Divock Origi to their squad. The Standard says the Reds are favourites to sign the 19-year-old from French club Lille.

“The deal isn't done yet. Liverpool is still the most concrete option,” said his father.

Rafa Benitez has reportedly made signing Lucas a priority for Napoli. The former Reds boss is keen in taking the Brazilian to Italy according to Corriere dello Sport while also considering moves for Lyons Maxime Gonalons and Spurs’ Sandro.

Jordan Henderson says Steven Gerrard’s decision to retire from playing for England is born out of a desire to be fresh for Champions League games. Gerrard called time on his England career yesterday following 114 caps.

“He’s still got a huge part to play. That’s probably swayed his decision in terms of being fresh for the Champions League,” he told the Liverpool website.

Liverpool defender Andre Wisdom will spend the season on loan with West Brom. The 21-year-old will be given the opportunity to enhance his Premier League experience and play more games than would have been possible had he stayed at Anfield.
