League One transfer latest: Barnsley see bid for ex-Arsenal prodigy rejected

All the latest summer transfer news from League One...

Barnsley will be looking to bounce back to the Championship at the first time of asking having been relegated to League One last season. However, manager Danny Wilson was dealt a huge blow over the weekend as top goalscorer Chris O'Grady left the club for Brighton and Hove Albion, leaving him short up front.

It seems that one of his top targets is former Arsenal striker Rhys Murphy, who is currently with Dagenham and Redbridge. Murphy failed to make a first team appearance for the Gunners but was highly thought of throughout the youth setup, and spent time with Brentford and Preston before moving to Holland with Telstar. Now back in England, Murphy hit 13 goals last season, and Barnsley were clearly impressed enough to make a bid to sign him - only for Dagenham to reject the offer.

Yorkshire rivals Bradford City and Sheffield United will also be gunning for promotion this season, with both clubs already strengthening. The Bantams have added Notts County duo Gary Liddle and Alan Sheehan, Sunderland midfielder Billy Knott and former Crawley Town striker Billy Clarke, whilst the Blades have snapped up a number of players including Chris Basham, Andy Butler, Ben Davies and Jamal Campbell-Ryce - but both teams are looking to add another striker.

The player that both teams are looking to sign is former Manchester City Alex Nimely. The Liberian, 23, was released by the Blues this summer, and reports suggest that he could be targeted by Bradford or Sheffield United.

Elsewhere, Doncaster Rovers are also looking to boost their strikeforce and had been strongly linked with a swoop for another ex-Manchester City forward in Ishmael Miller. Doncaster boss Paul Dickov played alongside Miller for City and was looking to reunite with the 27-year-old, but he has now snubbed a move to the Keepmoat Stadium in order to hold talks with Blackpool over a move to Bloomfield Road.
