Manchester United’s training complex pitches have been relaid on the orders of manager Louis van Gaal. The pitches at Carrington have been replaced with synthetic-grass hybrid pitches whilst the squad are away on the their pre-season tour of the USA.
United kick off their pre-season tour on Wednesday against LA Galaxy at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. Former Leeds and Tottenham striker Robbie Keane will be one of the familiar faces the Red Devils face at the former home of legendary England captain and United winger David Beckham in Los Angeles.
Robbie Keane expects a tough battle in the friendly fixture. He told the official match programme:
"It's really important, particularly for the younger lads here, to experience top-quality football first hand. On a personal level, I've experienced that and played against United so many times but, for the younger ones and for the MLS, it'll be a great game with a great atmosphere."
Meanwhile, striker Wayne Rooney described the new boss as “a new manager with different ideas” leading The Independent to discuss what approach the Dutch coach will employ at Old Trafford.
Youngster Wilfried Zaha is keen to impress the new manager and wants to 'make his mark' at Old Trafford after returning from his loan spell at Cardiff last term.
"It's great to be back," Zaha told ManUtd.com. "There's a nice vibe, everybody's working hard and we're looking forward to the new season.
"Going to Cardiff was a really good experience for me. I managed to get quite a few games under my belt at Premier League level, which was good, and I feel like I've come back a better player."
"I've realised there are things about my game I need to work on and concentrate on and I know this is the best place to be if I want to improve. I really want to make myself a better player," he added
In transfer news, Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp insists United ‘target’ Mats Hummels will stay at the Bundesliga giants, despite rumours linking the Germany defender with a move to join the Red Devils for a fee quotes as €20 million.
“I can assure everyone that there are no signs that those two players want to leave. Marco and Mats will play for us the next season,” Klopp said.
“What are we talking about today? Mats to Manchester United? For how much? €20m (£15.8m)? With those kind of sums can you forget that straight away.”
Meanwhile, Uruguay striker Edinson Cavani has ‘hinted’ he could leave Paris Saint-Germain, leaving the door open to speculation he could join United. "Football is a sport where confidence is everything," he said.
"When a club wants you, calls you, they want to make you part of their project, they are looking for you,” stated the 27-year-old forward.
"I have a four year contract with Paris. The Premier League or the Bundesliga? I like them a lot but I am not used to constantly changing league.”
The Daily Mail claims Colombia winger Juan Cuadrado has been the subject of a £27.7 million bid from United, with the reports originating in Spain.
