James Rodriguez is on the verge of joining European Champions Real Madrid from Monaco.
James Rodriguez is expected to complete his move from Monaco to Real Madrid in the next 24 hours, with the two clubs having agreed a fee of around £60 million.
The 23-year-old has become hot property this transfer market following his immense performance at the World Cup in Brazil. The Colombian scored six goals as he helped his country reach the quarter-finals of the tournament, enough to land the famous Golden Boot prize.
According to Spanish newspaper Marca, a deal is all but done for Rodriguez, with just the finer details to be smoothed out. The completion of the deal could be announced within the next 24 hours.
If the reported £60 million fee for Rodriguez is true, then Real have done pretty well considering he had only been at Monaco one season, and has now risen to potentially the best young player on the planet. It takes their spending close to £100m already this summer, having also signed Toni Kroos from Bayern Munich.
Real could yet spend further as they continue to be linked with Rodriguez’s international and club team-mate Radamel Falcao. The Colombian striker, like Rodriguez, only moved to Monaco a year ago following his stunning performances in La Liga for Atletico Madrid.
Should a deal for Falcao also be done, Madrid would boast the kind of depth that their ‘Galactico’ era had. Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema, Luka Modric, Angel Di Maria, Toni Kroos, James Rodriguez and potentially Falcao would undoubtedly see them considered the strongest force in world football.
Rodriguez will bring a cutting edge to Real’s play, with plenty of creativity and goals in his locker, and is set to be a contender over the coming years to rise as one of the best players of his generation.
