News, views and rumours relating to Manchester United in the past 24 hours.
Manchester United playmaker Juan Mata is looking forward to the pre-season tour and training with Louis van Gaal. The Spaniard told MUTV:
"It will be a different pre-season for me because in the last six or seven years I’ve always had a tournament with the national team and haven’t had a complete pre-season with my team.”
"So this time I will do the whole tour of the States, which is good for me to prepare for a long and hard season. This is my first pre-season with United and I’m enjoying it: the journey was good, the hotel is nice and the training ground is great," he added.
In transfer news, Juventus have completed the signing of Patrice Evra from United after the France fullback transferred in a deal worth an initial £1.2 million after eight years at Old Trafford. The Italian champions have signed the 33-year-old on a two-year contract understood to be worth £55,000 per week.
“After a great deal of thought I have decided the time is right for me to leave Manchester United. It is the biggest decision of my career as this club is, and will always remain, in my heart,” said Evra in a message to Red Devils’ fans.
Patrice Evra thanked legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson following his move to Italy:
“An immense thank you to Sir Alex Ferguson for making it all possible, for giving me the privilege to be a captain, to be inspired by the legend of Manchester United and to understand that nobody is bigger than the club.”
Meanwhile, club chief executive Ed Woodward suggests fans can expect more signings this summer whilst the squad and manager Louis van Gaal are away on their pre-season tour of the USA.
"There is a lot of work going on behind the scenes," he told MUTV. "Watch this space."
Reports also suggest Louis van Gaal will have ‘no fixed budget’ this summer and no limits on what he is allowed to spend to bring in new additions at Old Trafford.
“Financially we are extremely strong, funds are available. Louis is assessing what’s been going on, we’ve been in dialogue for some time about targets,” said Woodward.
Meanwhile, United remain linked with Germany centre back Mats Hummels who is rumoured to be a top target for the Red Devils to sign from Borussia Dortmund following his World Cup win in Brazil with reports in The Independent suggesting a deal for the defender is ‘close’.
Elsewhere, United are also rumoured to be eyeing Juan Cuadrado and Edinson Cavani this summer, as The Guardian discusses.
The Mirror claims Edinson Cavani is set for ‘showdown talks’ with Paris Saint-Germain over his future.
Interestingly, United target Arturo Vidal has put his ‘mansion’ in Turin up for sale, according to reports, suggesting a move to Old Trafford could be imminent.
M.E.N suggest that Louis van Gaal could look to bring in Stefan de Vrij, as the Dutch coach is known for brining in players from his work with the Netherlands.
