Jan Age Fjortoft - the former player turned journalist specialising in the Bundesliga - has had his say on the latest reports that claim Manchester United are close to a €20million move for Mats Hummels.
Spanish newspaper Sport claimed a deal was all but done, with talks occurring last week and everything in place barring any late twists.
Straight away the price raised questions. Given that Hummels is one of the best centre-backs in Europe, with a contract until the summer of 2017 and with Borussia Dortmund surely desperate to keep him, how would United have negotiated such a fee when you consider the amount David Luiz moved to Paris Saint-Germain from Chelsea for?
And Fjortoft does not seem convinced. In fact he tweeted quote the opposite shortly after the news broke.
"Re: Hummels No reports in Germany saying Dortmund will sell. Personally I think there is NO chance Dortmund even will consider it," he wrote.
It is hard to disagree with him, with United in desperate need of a player of Hummels' calibre, certainly, but the German international himself? Surely they will not be that lucky...
