Manchester United have confirmed the sale of Patrice Evra to Juventus.
The French left-back has long been linked with a move to the Italian side, and now United’s website has made it official.
Evra first moved to Old Trafford from Monaco eight-and-a-half years ago, and many United fans will remember the match against Manchester City, when the young Frenchman looked completely out of his depth.
However, he turned things round to become an integral part of the squad, making 379 appearances for the club and scoring 10 goals.
Evra’s future was in doubt following the signing of Southampton and England defender Luke Shaw earlier this summer. And despite the recent activation of a one-year extension in his contract, the rumour persisted that the 33-year-old could be on his way.
That has now been confirmed, as he follows another former United defender Nemanja Vidic to Italy. But following the sale of Alex Buttner, it will be interesting to see if Louis van Gaal moves for another left-back or promotes from within.
