It was only three days ago when Manchester City faced Hearts in a pre-season friendly, with the club's beastly striker Alvaro Negredo featuring in the 2-1 win over the Scottish club at the Tynecastle Stadium in Edinburgh.
Away from the scoreline, however, there was little to celebrate as the hulking Spanish forward has suffered injury - a fracture to his fifth metatarsal which could keep him sidelined for two to three months.
He confirmed via Instagram: "I want to let you know that its going to be hard for the next few months, I fractured my fifth metatarsal and will be out a few months.
"I will be back stronger than ever."
The latest news could impact City's transfer activity. The player had been linked with a move to Real Madrid, despite claims from local media that there was no intention on the club's part to ratify such a transfer. Negredo himself even said: "I'm very settled at City, I don't want to leave."
In his absence, though, could City enter the summer market for a replacement - albeit a temporary one?
Fans of City are divided on social media as there is one group who believe that Manuel Pellegrini's unit as a whole are strong enough to cope with various absences, while other call for reinforcements… with one supporter requesting David Villa, despite the veteran having already been loaned to Melbourne City via New York City.
Gutted that Alvaro Negredo has broken his foot, worried that we have seen the best of him at #mcfc— Alex Lanigan (@AlexLanigan) July 21, 2014
Gutted about Negredo but he hardily did anything second half of the season Dzeko to step up again and keep Aguero fit! #mcfc— Dean Evans (@D3vanss) July 21, 2014
We don't need to buy or loan anyone despite Negredo being out. 3 strikers is enough and Guidetti/Hiwula can help in cup games. #mcfc— Arttu (@SilvaInTheHole) July 21, 2014
