Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho couldn't be happier with the way pre-season has gone so far.
Chelsea’s pre-season is well under way with the side yet to lose a game following back-to-back wins against football league sides Wycombe Wanderers and AFC Wimbledon.
Chelsea look in great shape ahead of the new Premier League campaign, which starts next month and Jose Mourinho has assembled a world class squad with barely a weakness in sight.
We’ve taken a look at Chelsea’s pre-season in pictures so far.
Two of Chelsea’s early pieces of transfer business related to midfielder Cesc Fabregas and striker Diego Costa.
A deal for Fabregas was wrapped up just before the World Cup whereas a deal for Costa followed the tournament as Mourinho bypassed bidding wars and secured two superb players in important positions.
The Blues then officially returned for first team training after the World Cup, with those who played at the tournament in Brazil given extra time off.
Chelsea took an extremely strong squad into their first pre-season game against Wycombe Wanderers, which they went on to win 5-0.
Branislav Ivanovic, Nemanja Matic and John Terry were all part of the squad but it was one of the club’s youngsters who grabbed the headlines during the emphatic win.
Izzy Brown bagged a brace during the friendly win, which included a superb curling effort from outside Wycombe’s box, which left Mourinho with a huge grin on his face.
The positive result at Wycombe was followed by another piece of great transfer news as a deal for Filipe Luis of Atletico Madrid was finally confirmed.
The Blues were reported to have been following the Brazilian for a lengthy period of time, haggling over price as Atleti held out for a £20 million fee, which attracted the Blues some criticism as he’s 28-years-old.
Chelsea then managed to back up their win against Wycombe with a hard fought 3-2 victory against AFC Wimbledon, thanks to a pair of goals from club captain Terry.
New signing from last season Kurt Zouma made his first start for the club while Nemanja Matic played in front of the back four.
It’s all going to plan so far.
