Arsenal fans react to reports Schneiderlin could snub them for Tottenham

Morgan Schneiderlin is reportedly considering snubbing Arsenal in favour of a move to Tottenham Hotspur.

Reports suggest Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin is set to snub a potential move to Arsenal in favour of a switch to Tottenham Hotspur.

The Gunners, hunting for a holding midfielder, have been linked with a £15-18 million move for the Frenchman, but reports this morning suggested that Spurs hold the advantage because of Mauricio Pochettino.

Schneiderlin played under Pochettino when he was in charge of the Saints and the Frenchman seems keen to reignite that relationship and continue his development playing for the Argentine.

On the surface it seems to be an odd choice considering Arsenal’s superior domestic position and the fact they can offer him Champions League football.

Arsene Wenger’s track record of working with younger players also isn’t bad with the likes of Kieran Gibbs and Serge Gnabry among the younger first team players to have risen through the club’s academy system.

Schneiderlin’s chances of regular first team football are arguably better at Spurs.

The presence of Mathieu Flamini and Mikel Arteta in the Arsenal squad does mean Wenger has holding midfield options already in place, who could provide competition for Schneiderlin at the Emirates.

The same could be said because of Sandro at Spurs but the Brazilian has been linked with several a move away from White Hart Lane with Serie A clubs interested and that would open up a position in Tottenham’s squad.

On the one hand, Schneiderlin arguably has a better chance of winning trophies if he goes to Arsenal but on the other hand, he can play for a manager who knows him inside out if he heads off to Spurs.

It will be fascinating to see which side he chooses to join if he leaves the Saints. Here’s what Arsenal fans have made of the potential of getting snubbed in favour of their local rivals.
