Tottenham linked with swoop for key Liverpool target

Tottenham are now reportedly eyeing the services of one of Liverpool’s key transfer targets

Tottenham Hotspur will reportedly move for Swansea City striker Wilfried Bony this transfer window, according to the Express.

The Ivorian has been linked with a switch to Liverpool to replace the departed Luis Suarez, with manager Brendan Rodgers supposedly preparing a £19million bid to buy the striker out of his contract.

But Tottenham are now thought to be interested in Bony, following their apparent failure to capture Chelsea man Romelu Lukaku. Liverpool are also believed to have ended their interest in Bony, after they agreed a deal to sign Loic Remy for £8.5million this weekend.

Bony had a strong first season in Wales last year, scoring 25 times in all competitions for the Swans. His tall, powerful frame and ability to score a range of goals has made him one of the most talked about players of the transfer season.

Swansea manager Garry Monk has continued to claim that Bony will not be heading elsewhere, but could find his wishes unrealistic as a host of Champions League and Europa League clubs are linked with his services.

Spurs struggled in the striking department last season, with big-money signing Roberto Soldado vastly underperforming. Following the sacking of Andre Villas-Boas, the club turned to former Arsenal forward Emmanuel Adebayor for goals. Although Adebayor performed well, Tottenham still only have youth product Harry Kane and the questionable Erik Lamela as front men options, with new boss Mauricio Pochettino looking to add depth to his strike force.

The London club have seemingly strengthened in their defensive department over the weekend, as another Swansea man Ben Davies reportedly flew out to finalise his move to the club. Whether Wilfired Bony now follows remains to be seen.
