Arsenal may have only recently signed Mathieu Debuchy from Newcastle United for a reported £10million, but they are already being linked with another right-back in the form of Gino Peruzzi.
That is the claim of Italian football journalist – and man in the know – Gianluca Di Marzio – who reports that Arsenal could hold talks regarding a move for the player this Tuesday.
With Carl Jenkinson being tipped to head out on loan next season, signing back-up to Debuchy may not be as surprising as first thought. After all, Arsene Wenger will be looking to challenge both domestically and in Europe and, in Peruzzi, he would be signing a player who can also operate on the right side of midfield or in a defensive midfield position when required.
It is that versatility which would no doubt be the 22-year-old’s selling point. But with a contract until the summer of 2017, it may be a tough ask to convince his current club Catania to sell.
The Argentine has only played 23 times for the Italian side. But if Di Marzio is right on this one – and he often is – he could become the latest addition to an Arsenal squad Wenger is wasting no time in rejuvenating.
