Catalan based newspaper Mundo Deportivo has suggested five clubs, including Barcelona, have made bids for versatile Ajax star Daley Blind.
Blind performed well on the World Cup stage with the Netherlands showing competence at left-back and in a holding midfield role, which appears to have created a scramble for his signature this summer.
“Manchester United, Borussia Dortmund, Liverpool and Arsenal have also bid (as well as Barcelona) but the Ajax player has the last word,” reports MD.
“Manchester United’s van Gaal is tightening. The former coach has assigned him as his main objective – His market price is 22 million and United are willing to write a bigger cheque.”
It would seem that Blind can cherry pick his next move if he does want to leave Ajax and LvG could be Manchester United’s advantage.
The United boss used Blind at the World Cup, giving him that opportunity to perform on the world’s biggest stage in his two main positions.
Van Gaal clearly believes that Blind is a top quality performer and that belief stands for a lot for a player thinking about making a big move away from Dutch football.
Blind having played under LvG before also means he knows the style of football and philosophy that the Dutchman will want to deploy at United and therefore he’ll know whether he can fit in.
Arsenal and Liverpool have an advantage in the form of Champions League football, as do Borussia Dortmund and Barcelona, which is a competition that Blind would surely like to play in this season considering his recent history with Ajax.
Arsenal, Liverpool and BVB also have superb setups, which are designed to help younger and more experienced players settle into a new brand and culture of football quickly.
Blind could still choose to stay at Ajax but with some very big sharks circling around him he’s free to pick his next move and despite no Champions League football, LvG gives United a huge advantage.
