Manchester United linked Nevan Subotic made a long awaited return from injury in Borussia Dortmund’s friendly game against Heidenheim.
The centre-back tore his cruciate ligament against Wolfsburg last year, just as he was being linked with a winter move to Manchester United.
It was a huge blow to Dortmund at the time but his return will give fans hope that they can wrestle the Bundesliga title back from the clutches of Pep Guardiola’s Bayern Munich.
Dortmund won their friendly 4-3 and it will be a sight for Jurgen Klopp’s sore eyes to see Subotic back in action, as speculation continues over the future of Mats Hummels.
Manchester United are hunting a new central defender and Subotic’s return could soften the blow of any deal for Hummels, despite reports which suggest United are ready to make a second offer for Arsenal captain Thomas Vermaelen.
Klopp will want to keep the duo of Hummels and Subotic together for most of the coming season, but there’s no reason United can’t or shouldn’t make a bid for either in the future if deals aren’t possible this summer.
