On this day: United see second Fabregas bid rejected, Mourinho warns Terry

Stories about Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United all feature.

Pre-season continues to gather pace with Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur among the sides who played yesterday.

The transfer market continues to offer up some interesting transfer rumours ahead of the new season, as managers up and down the country look to improve their sides ahead of the new campaign.

We’ve taken a look back at this day last year to see which stories had fans talking.

‘United make second Fabregas offer’

Manchester United made a second offer to sign Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas.

The offer was reported to be £30 million, more than the £26 million United had already seen rejected.

David Moyes was keen to sign the former Arsenal man but he stayed at the Nou Camp moving to Chelsea earlier this summer.

‘Chelsea captain not safe from the axe’

Jose Mourinho warned Chelsea captain John Terry that he couldn’t consider himself safe in the current squad.

The Blues icon faced questions over his age last season and his ability to continue playing to his highest level.

Terry went on to form part of the best defence in the Premier League, signing a new deal covering this coming season.

“He's not safe, and he knows he's not safe. The only thing he knows is safe is our friendship, but professionally, nobody's safe,” said Mourinho.

‘Santos leaves Arsenal’

Former Arsenal left-back Andre Santos left the club and signed for Flamengo.

The 30-year-old struggled to make any significant impact at the club following his move in August 2011.

Santos had previously spent time on loan at Flamengo and will be remembered as one of Arsene Wenger’s poorer signings.
