Liverpool’s Suso speaks on more responsibility – the way to cope without Luis Suarez?

Liverpool youngster Suso’s comments about being more responsible should be heeded by his teammates, as the Reds look to life without Luis Suarez.

Liverpool winger Suso is only 20 years of age, but he does not see himself as a ‘young player’.

Speaking to the club’s official website following the Reds’ 2-1 victory over Preston North End in a pre-season friendly on Saturday, the Spaniard said: ‘I learned a lot during my loan spell and I was playing regular football. I'm not really a young player anymore so I've got more responsibilities now and I will work as hard as I can to try and get a chance’.

Last season Suso was on loan at Spanish club Almeria, for whom he made 33 La Liga appearances, scoring three goals and providing seven assists in the process. It was the youngster’s performance that proved to be key in the Andalusian club retaining their top-flight status.

Now a year older and wiser, Suso is ready to take on more responsibility in the team, something that manager Brendan Rodgers would like all of his players to do in the wake of Luis Suarez’s exit.

The Uruguay international was the best player for the Merseyside outfit in the 2013-14 campaign in which they finished second in the Premier League. The 27-year-old’s departure to Barcelona has left a big hole in the Reds’ attack, which they may not be able to fill.

Liverpool are yet to sign a like-for-like replacement for Suarez, and perhaps Rodgers will eventually build his attack around the prolific and promising Daniel Sturridge.

Sturridge himself is 24 years of age and will need to take more responsibility in terms of scoring goals, and so will the players in charge of creating chances for him including Raheem Sterling and Philippe Coutinho.

Liverpool have a young and promising squad, but the players should follow the wise words of Suso and step up their game next season.
