La Liga transfer latest: James Rodriguez arrives in Madrid, United target seen in Barcelona

James Rodriguez playing for Columbia

All the latest summer transfer news from La Liga...

Real Madrid swooped to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Toni Kroos this week, landing the German international for a fee of around £20m, but Carlo Ancelotti's side aren't done in the transfer market. Levante goalkeeper Keylor Navas is expected to join the club soon, but the club is now focusing their intentions on signing Monaco's Colombian World Cup star James Rodriguez.

The 23-year-old was one of the stars of the tournament, finishing as the top goalscorer and is now edging closer to a staggering €80m move to the Spanish capital. Today, he arrived in Madrid ahead of talks with the club, but it really does seem like the situation is a foregone conclusion, with Rodriguez looking likely to join forces with Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale at the Bernabeu.

Should Rodriguez sign, there will be far-reaching implication on the existing Madrid squad. Playmaker Isco is already being linked with loan moves to Liverpool and AC Milan, but the player who could leave immediately is Argentina international Angel di Maria.

The former Benfica star, 26, has been strongly linked with a move to Manchester United recently, but reports in the French press suggest that Paris Saint-Germain are planning to entice di Maria to the capital by offering him wages in the region of £120,000 per week. The likes of Ezequiel Lavezzi and Lucas Moura could leave to fund the €50m deal, with Laurent Blanc's men seemingly adamant about signing di Maria.

Elsewhere, Barcelona's search for defensive help continues having seen their bid for Valencia's Jeremy Mathieu stall - and now they could look to sign Ajax's Daley Blind. The 24-year-old showed his versatility at the World Cup by playing at centre half, left back and even in central midfield, and the reported Manchester United target was spotted in Barcelona this weekend - sparking rumours that he's set for a move to the Camp Nou, which his agent didn't reject.
