Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey is delighted to have captained the team against Boreham Wood on Saturday.

Arsenal stepped up their preparations for the 2014-15 campaign with a pre-season friendly against Boreham Wood at Meadow Park on Saturday.

A number of first-team regulars were missing, including Mesut Ozil, Jack Wilshere and Olivier Giroud, but one star player who did feature was Aaron Ramsey.

The 23-year-old midfielder started the match for the Gunners and wore the captain’s armband for the first 45 minutes that he was on the pitch.

The Wales international was delighted to have skippered the team and took to social networking site Twitter to express his happiness.

Ramsey enjoyed a successful season on a personal level in 2013-14 despite his injury problems, and he was impressive against Ian Allinson’s side on Saturday.

It was an effective display from the former Cardiff City star, who played his passes well and surged forward intelligently.

One could point out that Ramsey was playing against a Conference South team, but it was a pre-season friendly and he will certainly take confidence from his performance, especially as he was named the captain.

Arsenal will now travel to the USA to continue their preparations for what promises to be a very exciting season.
