Italian newspaper Tuttosport and Spanish paper Marca agree that Napoli defender Raul Albiol turned down moves to Manchester City and another Premier League club.
The Spanish international centre-back joined Napoli from Real Madrid last summer for a transfer fee of around £10 million.
Last season was a positive one at the Stadio San Paolo with Napoli managing to finish third in Serie A and winning the Italian Cup.
Albiol's compatriot Rafa Benitez, who is coach at Napoli, holds the defender in high esteem and that is said to be a major reason why the player wants to stay put.
The club are said to have consulted the player, who flatly rejected the idea of a move to the Premier League champions.
It is believed that another English club have also made an approach but been given a similarly blunt response from Albiol.
Napoli are keen to retain the base of the squad that did so well last season and are trying to add some strength in depth to chase the title.
The Partenopei's newest recruit Michu joined players for training yesterday and the hope is that he will reduce the goal scoring burden on Argentine star Gonzalo Higuain.
