Queens Park Rangers manager has suggested how Louis van Gaal can win the Premier League in his first season in charge of Manchester United.
LvG was officially unveiled last week and Redknapp has stated the Dutchman needs four or five players for United to be considered serious title challengers next season.
“He needs to bring four or five players in at least to get them back to where they were under Alex [Ferguson], where they were winning championships because they look well short of that at the moment,” he told talkSPORT.
Chelsea look as though they’ll boast the strongest starting side in the Premier League next season following deals for Diego Costa, Cesc Fabregas and Filipe Luis.
Jose Mourinho responded to the disappointment of last season and has assembled a squad, which looks extremely strong on paper, with very few weak positions across the team.
Arsenal have also added well, with Arsene Wenger quick to add in key areas with Mathieu Debuchy coming in at right-back to replace Bacary Sagna while the Frenchman did well to secure a big money deal for Alexis Sanchez.
LvG himself has been proactive in the transfer market and has done well to quickly secure two of the four or five players that Redknapp talks of.
Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera are both sensible long term additions to the team and it would be surprising if van Gaal doesn’t utilise his knowledge and expertise of Dutch football to do some very good deals for the club.
However, the side still needs defensive reinforcements and a bullish, holding midfield type player to fill the void created through Michael Carrick’s injury.
United’s objective this coming season will be to break back into the top four because of the financial pressure the club is under from sponsors, something that van Gaal has already talked about.
United fans would love to see a piece of silverware in the cabinet by the end of the campaign and if van Gaal adds well, there’s an outside chance it could be the title.
