Manchester United transfer news: Defender deal expected today; £8m midfielder linked

A select round-up of the latest news relating to Manchester United

The Manchester United transfer news is in short supply this morning, with the club’s summer tour of the USA seemingly putting any business – or at least the rumours about that business – on the backburner.

However, there are still a few stories out there, including Spanish newspaper Sport’s claim that United are considering an £8million move for AC Milan midfielder Nigel de Jong.

This story has done the rounds before, but it is now being claimed that Michael Carrick’s injury lay-off could see Louis van Gaal move for his former Netherlands star.

Sport Witness has picked up on the news, and they believe that if a bid is made for the 29-year-old, a deal could well go through.

In other news, ESPN reports that Patrice Evra could be nearing a move to Juventus.

The French left-back has been tipped to leave Old Trafford this summer despite the recent activation of a one-year contract extension. And with Luke Shaw now at the club, reports initially from Sky Italia claim Evra’s move to Juve is expected to be officially announced at some point today.
